I bought a new Canon 40D, so today was photo day. We hit up The Little Theatre Rose Garden and Pullen Park. Check out my shots, and then head over and check out Brandy. She also got a new camera.
I typed a nice, long post on Vox about my trip to Chapel Hill. Before I posted it, though, Explorer crashed. So, now you get a few less words.
I have visited Chapel Hill several times since attending UNC in the early 90s, but those trips were usually quick trips to grab some food, or to visit a friend. Yesterday was the first time in years I actually spent an extended amount of time there and I noticed a lot of changes. There were new apartment buildings, hotels, new campus buildings and new monuments on campus.
One new change that made me a little sad was the closing of The Rathskellar, a restaurant that has been a fixture of downtown for almost 60 years. Brandy and I walked down Amber Alley (see photo below) with intentions of eating at "The Rat," but were met with a locked door and the absence of signage. The Rat wasn't anything spectacular. The food was good, but not incredible. But the atmosphere was really cool (one room looked like a cave, another looked like a train), and there was a lot of history in that place. Apparently, the deteriorating condition of the building and a failure to pay taxes for several months forced the owner's hand in closing. The owner, as wel as some people in the city, want the location to reopen so maybe it will happen. But, for now, The Rat is gone.
We also went to Morehead Planetarium. The last time I was there, I think I was probably in 5th grade. The planetarium really is more of a kid attraction, designed to educate children about outer space. But, we decided to catch a show anyway. We watched "Destination: Space" in the "dome room." The dome room is really cool. In the center of the room is a huge "Zeiss" robotic projector. That projector, along with abourt 150 other smaller in the room, is used to display the video content on the domed roof of the dome room, hence the name.
No trip to Chapel Hill is complete without visiting The Dean E. Smith Student Activities Center, or "The Dean Dome." This is where the Tar Heels play. It is one of the top complexes in the country.
I took several other photos. Perhaps I will post more later... or perhaps not. =)
It has been a while since I posted, but almost no one reads this when I do post. So, I don't think I have been missed enough to feel bad for not updating. Hello, three people who read this. =)
I went to Jacksonville/Sneads Ferry at the beginning of the week. I decided to set up a few photo shoots while I was there. I had to deal with one no-show, and another model who was so excited to shoot with me that she simply didn't call me back. But, I still managed to squeeze in three shoots... in one day/night! Here are a couple shots:
Brandy and I made it out of Raleigh for most of this week. It was cool because I got to see a few friends I haven't seen in a while. On Thursday, we headed down to Wilmington to see my friend Rob and, of course, along came the camera. This will be the first of a couple of updates. This is downtown Wilmington at night.
